First sunny weekend without thunder, Jon and I hit up the Union Square farmers’ market and planted herbs on the balcony. A few days later, and already the basil is thriving in the sunshine, bushing out, bursting upwards, to the manor born.

Coconut Iced Tea – American Life
I’ve adapted to life in America pretty well, I think. I’ve got the hang of honey mustard now, after 3 years of deliberate assimilation. I see that value in root beer floats. I understand the fuss about s’mores. Sure, the biscuits leave a lot to be desired, and, how many times, you can’t make tea by bringing me a cup of warm water and a tea bag in a packet, but generally, I do ok.

The SlapFight sketch show after party was held in the Comedy Bar, where Scott had managed to secure a drinks deal. There we all were, patting ourselves on the back for another show accomplished, plus laughs, minus tumble weed, when Jon noticed a woman with nothing between herself and the bar stool but a g-string. “That’s odd,” he said.

Lamb Shanks in Rose, for Game of Thrones Viewing Parties.
Game of Thrones is a Big Deal in the Knowles/Roberts household, partly because, obviously, all the awesome sex and violence and dragons, but also because Jon drew a series of maps to illustrate the books, so we feel very invested in the world and its fortunes.

Dubai, it turns out, it famous for dates. Every souk we wandered into, every shopping mall we navigated, was dotted with date shops catering to every budget and taste – from mountains of dried fruit piled in baskets scooped into paper bags, to gorgeously wrapped jewel boxes stuffed with stuffed dates.
